ACSRF Build-a-Bike Day

16 December 2011

In November SuperFriend encouraged workplaces to support others this Christmas by considering how they could create a sense of community at work by donating to a charity. You can imagine how thrilled we were to hear about Australian Catholic Superannuation & Retirement Fund’s “Build A Bike” day on Friday 9th December.

ACSRF, a participating SuperFriend fund, held a team building exercise where 10 teams were put together to construct 10 push bikes.  The staff thought they were building the bikes simply as an exercise to develop teamwork. Little did they know that management at ACSRF had previously arranged with St Vincent de Paul to have the 10 bikes given to needy children for Christmas. At the end of the day there was a presentation from ACSRF CEO Greg Cantor to David Starr, Relationship Development Coordinator at St Vincent de Paul Society. A three minute video was played to show the types of families the bikes would go to; families affected by broken homes and other circumstances.

“It was an inspirational day and the staff were so happy when they realised where the bikes were going,” said Cameron Wood, Operations Manager at ACSRF.

Here at SuperFriend we’re very impressed with not just the team building activity (it looks like a lot of fun!) but also with the forethought of the ACSRF management team to organise the charitable giving to St Vincent de Paul. A Merry Christmas it will be for the deserving families who are to be the recipients of ACSRF’s generosity. Well done to everyone involved!
