Mental Health Week have released the following press release in the lead up to Mental Health Week- October 9-15.
As the first anniversary of the devastating Queensland summer of natural disasters draws near, what better opportunity to celebrate the power of the human spirit than Mental Health Week 2011?
Every Queenslander was affected by last summer’s natural disasters. Even if water didn’t lap your front door or cyclonic winds didn’t rip off your roof.
The emotional impact of confronting such devastation left its mark on all who witnessed it as well as all those that experienced it.
Through compassion and understanding, people turned out in droves across the state to lend a hand.
Fortunately, we don’t have to wait for another disaster to demonstrate our open mindedness and empathy for others. Mental Health Week is a further opportunity for Queensland to show what a collective can do to support those in need.

It’s a national day of action brought together by SuperFriend and R U OK? This fun day of action aims to get people to connect with colleagues, friends and loved ones by reaching out to anyone doing it tough and asking “Are you OK?” It’s about helping stop little mental health problems turning into big ones. It’s not just about reaching out to people in crisis but connecting with anyone you’re concerned about.
