Even though the workplace seems to be a major place where mental health issue begin, it is also a perfect protective factor to good mental health. Most of us spend a significant amount of our waking hours at work, and it is also a perfect place to meet new people, forms genuine relationships, feel a sense of connectedness, purpose and self-worth – all these protectors of mental health. Taking all that into consideration and the fact that suicide remains the leading cause of death for men up to age 44, perhaps a new kind of conversations need to happen at workplaces across Australia.
