Mental Health Connected
The SuperFriend Mental Health Connected training is a four hour workshop for professionals in the superannuation industry who interact directly with fund members and employers. Some of these members and employers may be experiencing mental health issues or be at risk of suicide. This interactive workshop has been tailored to assist staff in better understanding how these difficulties may present themselves in their clients and the best ways in which they can assist them to avoid further distress and difficulty.
In the Mental Health Connected training, participants will:
- Learn where to go for help and simple and effective self-care techniques.
- Develop the skills to identify common signs of mental illness, suicidal behaviour and/or distress;
- Learn to connect the dots to identify red flags and risk factors in member behaviour;
- Learn best practice approaches for communicating with members at risk of suicide;
- Learn where to go for help and simple and effective self-care techniques.
Participants come away from the workshop with a broader understanding of mental health and mental illness and will have developed skills in how best to respond in the context of their work environment.
The workshop is facilitated by a qualified clinical psychologist and is supported by a guest speaker who has a experienced living with a mental illness. It also includes case studies and role plays that replicate the types of enquiries managed by super fund call centres and claims staff.
SuperFriend’s Mental Health Connected training is free for participating SuperFriend industry superannuation funds, group life insurers and their administrator teams.
